Didn’t get in the water Friday, ended up splashing today. Sea trial went well, with a few minor glitches, but considering all the work we did, very satisfied. Top speed was 22.4 knots, but the quiet of the engines is going to take some time to get used to. Won’t be long now.

The new John Deere’s are so much quieter, you guys will be able to have a conversation on the back deck without ear protection. The word around the dock is, one cod per person in may, September and October, and haddock are 17 inches again. For those of you calling for reservations, please use 603 929 1995 , as all calls get forwarded to one of our cell phones . I’ll check in with you after sea trials, fingers crossed

Should be faster and a whole lot quieter. 15 haddock at 17 inches, down an inch from last season will make a huge difference in keepers. Pretty sure we’re going to get a cod in may, September and October. April definitely the coldest month, but haddock and reds were excellent last year. Anxious to see how she runs

Capt Dave ( Dave Arlit ) lost his battle with cancer early this morning. Dave was the guy, regardless of weather, always perched up on the bowsprit. If you have taken a few trips with us, I’m sure you probably met him. I can’t count the times in a season, when someone calling for reservations, would say, “ put me in the bow next to Dave “ Dave started fishing with us about 26-27 years ago when we were sailing out of Newburyport, and we’ve been great friends since. There have been a lot of crew mates come and gone in those years, but I knew come spring, Dave would be back in the bow and helping navigate the Bird. Tight lines bud, we’ll miss you dearly. Waiting on the crane to come and take the old engines out. Along with everyone else, I won’t miss the noise, but they have been extremely reliable for the past 25 years of service. It hasn’t rained in a couple of weeks, until I cut a hole in the roof yesterday, go figure
